WHICH TOOTHBRUSH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

WHICH TOOTHBRUSH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

They often say that we should spend big on the things we use every day. After all, if it’s an everyday item, that makes it a necessity, right? There may be a host of things which you might call everyday necessities ( Netflix, chocolate, the bread that costs just a little more but tastes oh, so much better ) that others might not, but we’re sure that your toothbrush is absolutely one of the cannot live without items for your everyday life. It makes it hard to choose when you stroll into the supermarket and are bombarded with literally dozens of different types, shapes, functions… you name it, so let us guide you with some advice straight from the dentist to you.

SOFT OVER HARD BRISTLES

Most dentists would agree that soft bristles are much better for removing plaque and debris from your mouth. Moreover, they feel softer and more gentle to the gums and teeth which makes for a better and less invasive brushing experience. Opt for a head that is smaller in order to clean those hard to reach back areas. As for the shape of the bristles? Rippled, Dome, flat across or whatever’s the latest style out there right now, is up to you. Smaller head, soft brush – that’s our advice.

ELECTRIC OR MANUAL – THE DIFFERENCE DEPENDS ON YOU

According to a study as published by Cochrane.org, “There was an 11% reduction in plaque at one to three months of use, and a 21% reduction in plaque when assessed after three months of use” ( 2014 Yaacob et al. ) This makes it seem like electric toothbrushes are the way to go but it depends on your style of brushing, how often you brush and also how long you do it as well.
Manual brushes are cheaper, more portable and still do get the job done. Electric on the other hand are more eco friendly, may improve your focus when brushing and are more ideal for people who have arthritis or hand and arm impediments.

GO WITH YOUR GUT
We’re fairly confident to say that there’s nobody else who knows your body and your preferences better than you do and with most things in life, it’s about what suits you and feels good for you. Your toothbrush is one of the most fundamental and basic tools for optimal health care, so trust your gut and instinct with your health needs in mind.
